Stop and Enjoy!, Phoebe Chang I grew up in a Christian home and even at a young age I was instilled with the idea that to be a Christian was to be a good person, following very closely the precepts I saw in the Bible. I don't blame my parents because they never presented Christ as law and neither did the church in Cerritos, the Christians with whom we met. I always heard the phrases Christ our life, Christ our enjoyment, and God just wants us to enjoy Him. In me I just wanted to be good and follow the rules. I always did relatively well in school and tried to listen to my parents. Though this attitude is by no means negative and is sometimes positive, I began to apply this attitude of being an excelling schoolgirl to the Christian life. I actively participated in meetings, spoke when I felt like I had to speak, preached the gospel, and was fully involved in all of the church activities. However, the result was anxiety and I wasn't happy even though I was doing so much. But the Lord had mercy on me and brought me to the Full-Time Training in Anaheim. This place is glorious because it's finally getting into my hard head that the Lord doesn't want me to do anything. He just wants me to enjoy Him! He put man in front of the tree of life in Genesis 2 and He ends the Bible with a picture of food and drink (Revelation 2:2)! I would never have realized that God is in Christ to be my food and drink without the ministry of Witness Lee and I appreciate it so much! Through Lee's ministry I see that Christ is the reality of the tree of life (John 15:5), the bread of life (John 6:48), and the living water (John 7:39), and the Bible does not present only precepts and laws that I'm expected to follow, but a Person who is living His life through me just by my eating and drinking of Him (John 6:57). It is not satisfying just to be a good Christian. What then would be the difference between Christianity and any other good thing in the world? I am so glad to be here learning to enjoy the Lord as life in the Full-Time Training. I can enjoy Him just by singing with the trainees, praying at many times during the day, calling on His name, and reading the Word. All these practices provide the way for me to enjoy Him.
